From operas to world-class racing, the summer season boasts an endless whirl of social occasions. But while we’re all familiar with the events, the dress codes can be trickier to master. I wrote this co-branded article for Town & Country in collaboration with William & Son.

What to wear: Opt for smart trousers or pretty dresses, straw hats (it can get sweltering in the stands) and preppy cardigans in case it gets chilly. When accessorised with ladylike flats, elegant jewellery and a blow-dry worthy of Pippa Middleton, you’’ll be invited into the Royal Box swifter than a Murray serve.

What to wear: It’s customary to go black-tie in a formal floor-length gown and wear it with flat shoes. The last thing you want is a short hemline flapping about in the wind or your stilettos stuck in the grass. Do take a cover-up as Glyndebourne can be very cold by the end of the evening.
